Apres — Terms of Use

These terms govern your use of the Apres iPhone app. By using the app you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use Apres.

What Apres is

Apres provides snow-condition estimates, a worldwide directory of ski resorts and their lifts, and GPS-based run tracking. The Resorts directory is free. The Snow Map and Track features require a Powder Pass subscription.

Safety and accuracy — please read

Apres is not a safety tool and must not be relied on for decisions that affect your safety. It gives no avalanche forecasting, no terrain-hazard warnings, and no navigation guidance.

Skiing and snowboarding are inherently dangerous. You are responsible for your own safety, for skiing within your ability, for obeying all resort rules and signage, and for consulting official resort and avalanche-authority sources before and during your day.

Everything the app shows is an estimate and may be wrong or out of date:

Snow depth and temperature come from weather models (Open-Meteo / ECMWF / GFS / ERA5), interpolated between measurement points. They are not on-mountain measurements.
Lift open/closed status and season dates are, for most resorts, a seasonal estimate derived from hemisphere and latitude, not a live feed. Only a small number of resorts have periodically refreshed status, and even that may lag reality.
Resort and lift data come from OpenStreetMap and may be incomplete or outdated.
GPS distance and speed depend on your phone's GPS and are approximate.
Map imagery on a saved run is aerial photography from the U.S. Geological Survey (The National Map, largely NAIP), which is in the US public domain; outside its coverage the map falls back to Google satellite imagery. Imagery may be several years old and will not show current snow.

Always check the resort's official conditions report before relying on anything you see in Apres.

Powder Pass subscription

Powder Pass is an auto-renewing monthly subscription, priced as shown in the app for your region.
Any free trial is offered once per Apple Account. If you have used it before, you will be charged immediately on subscribing.
Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase.
It renews automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the period ends.
You can manage or cancel in Settings → your name → Subscriptions on your device. Deleting the app does not cancel the subscription.
Unused trial time is forfeited if you subscribe during a trial.

Refunds are handled by Apple, not by us, under Apple's Media Services Terms.

Acceptable use

Please do not reverse-engineer or decompile the app, use it unlawfully, or scrape or redistribute its data commercially. Resort information originates from OpenStreetMap and remains subject to the ODbL licence.

Disclaimers and liability

Apres is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent permitted by law. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or accurate.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for any injury or loss arising from reliance on information the app provides. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

Changes and termination

We may update these terms; material changes will be posted here with a new date. We may modify or discontinue features at any time. You may stop using the app at any time by deleting it and cancelling any subscription.

Contact

What you may post, and what happens if you don't

Apres has no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive behaviour. You may not post anything that is unlawful, hateful, harassing, threatening, sexually explicit, violent, or that impersonates somebody else; nor anything that is not yours to post.

Every photo, clip, comment, profile and message carries a report control, and every report is reviewed. Content that breaks these rules is removed, and the account behind it can be suspended or deleted without notice. We aim to act on reports within 24 hours.

You can also block any other person from anywhere their name appears. Blocking hides their photos, clips, runs and meetups from you and stops them contacting you. They are not told, and blocking can be undone at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security.
